About Pink Oyster Mushrooms
Pink Oysters are one of the fastest-growing mushroom species you can cultivate. Their vibrant pink colour is most intense when young and fades significantly when cooked. When cooked until crispy, they develop a distinct bacon or ham-like flavour. Cooked lightly, they offer a milder, woody flavour with a tender, succulent texture.
They are a good source of B vitamins (niacin and riboflavin) and minerals including potassium and iron. They are also studied for their potential cholesterol-lowering properties due to the presence of lovastatin, a naturally occurring statin.
Shelf life: The fruiting block cannot be stored in the fridge. Fruit immediately after full colonisation. Fresh mushrooms have a maximum shelf life of 3–4 days.
Growing Conditions
Humidity: 85–95%. Mist 2–3 times daily.
Light: Indirect ambient light. Pink Oysters need some light for colour development — avoid direct sunlight and complete darkness.
Air: Gentle airflow to remove CO₂ buildup.
Temperature: 18°C–30°C fruiting. Best results above 24°C.
More Than One Harvest?
Yes. Expect 2–3 flushes. After each harvest, remove all remaining fruit bodies, allow the block to rest 3–4 days, then soak in cold water for 2–3 hours before resuming misting.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
Temperature: Too low will stall growth. Too high will dry them out or encourage contamination.
Humidity: Insufficient misting leads to small, dry, cracked caps — especially in dry climates.
Fresh air exchange: CO₂ buildup causes long, stringy stems and small caps. Ensure gentle airflow.
Light: Indirect ambient light is needed for proper colour and cap formation.
Orientation: Side fruiting always yields more than top fruiting.
What if pins form inside the bag?
Don’t worry. Ignore the internal pins. Gently fold the top of the bag to push out excess air, cut a 10cm X in the side of the bag where you want the mushrooms to grow, and begin misting that spot daily. The internal pins will be naturally aborted as they don’t have space to grow.
All mushrooms produce spores as part of their natural growth cycle. Some people may be sensitive or allergic to spores, so be mindful of where you grow them. Harvesting earlier — as the caps begin to flatten — will help you avoid heavy sporulation.

This kit introduces you to Stage 3: Fruiting — the final step in mushroom growing. To explore all three stages (from spores to harvest), check out our Educational Mushroom Growing Kit.

Checkout out our fine Misting Spray Bottle to produce tiny droplets and keep humidity high. The size of droplets formed can easily be evaporated , this constant evaporation signals mycelium to pin.
